Song Questions

  1. Who is the artist and what is the name of the song? The artist is System Of A Down, and the song name is B.Y.O.B.
  2. When was this song written and recorded? The song was written, recorded, and released, in 2005.
  3. Why can this song be classidfied as a 'protest song'? What is it protesting? This song can be classified as a protest song because the lyrics are questioning and going against the war in Iraq and also trying to get other people against it too. This song is protesting the war on terror in Iraq, as well as president Bush.
  4. What is the message of the song? What is the artist trying to say? I think the message of this song is that president bush was trying to trick people into thinking the war was a good thing. They talked about how he would give the soldiers money to go to college they referred to the war as a party, how Bush makes it seem. The artist is trying to say that they always send the poor because they are too uneducated to question the morals they are fighting for, and that its funny how they never send the rich white upper class people to fight, like Bush.
  5. What is the tone/mood of the song? (is it hopeful/opptimistic or synical/pessimistic) The mood of this song is dark and angry. They get this feel by using deep sounds, loud sounds, and making them quick and aggressive.
  6. Why did you choose to do this song? Why did it attract your attention /or what did you like about it? I chose this song because it was kind of a popular song a couple years ago, and I dont think people really realised the song's true meaning that it was protesting president Bush and the war in Iraq. What I liked about it was the way it sounds, it sounds really good. It also has a couple different sounds like the chorus and the verses sound fairly different but you can still tell that they are in the same song.
  7. How does the music video help to get the protest message across? The music video helped to get the protest message across by using kind of scary images of the brainwashed soldiers, and the colours they used added kind of a dark feeling to it to show what they think of the topic.

Lyrics to BYOB by System of a Down

"B.Y.O.B." - System Of A Down

WHY DO THEY ALWAYS SEND THE POOR!
Barbarisms by Barbaras
With pointed heels.
Victorious, victories kneel.
For brand new spankin' deals.
Marching forward hypocritic
And hypnotic computers.
You depend on our protection,

Yet you feed us lies from the table cloth.
La la la la la la la la la,
Everybody's going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine.

Kneeling roses disappearing,
Into Moses' dry mouth,
Breaking into Fort Knox,
Stealing our intentions,
Hangars sitting dripped in oil,
Crying FREEDOM!

Handed to obsoletion,
Still you feed us lies from the table cloth.
La la la la la la la la la,
Everybody's going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine.
Everybody's going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine.

Blast off, it's party time,
And we don't live in a fascist nation,
Blast off, it's party time,
And where the f*** are you?
Where the f*** are you?
Where the f*** are you?

Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor? [X4]

Kneeling roses disappearing,
Into Moses' dry mouth,
Breaking into Fort Knox,
Stealing our intentions,
Hangars sitting dripped in oil,
Crying FREEDOM!

Handed to obsoletion,
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth.
La la la la la la la la la,
Everybody's going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine.
Everybody's going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sun

Where the f*** are you!
Where the f*** are you!

Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor? [X3]
Why, do, they always send the poor [X3]
They only send the poor [x2]

One time when I went to Zeller's with a couple of friends, we were discriminated agai\nst just because we were a couple of teens. They made us leave our bags at the front, even though there were three or four other guys in the store that were allowed to were their bags in the store. the only difference between us and the other guys was that the other people with backpacks were in their mid thirties and we are just thirteen and fourteen. But besides that, all the workers were looking at us all the time and would keep one eye on us. And then, when we were deciding what we were going to buy, one of the older workers told us to either by something or get out of the store! so we bought our drinks and food right away then left, then that was the end of that.

In my book, the most recent important event was when Mr. Loomis attacked the main character in her sleep. He tried to grab her and hold her down to the bed, so I think he was probably trying to rape her. She might not have escaped, but her dog was sleeping with her and woke up. The dog woke up, and then the dog made a little bark which woke up the main character, which kept her alert and she soon realized that Mr. Loomis was in her room. She kept quiet and pretended that she was asleep, because she was scared and waited to see what Mr. Loomis was going to do. He attacked, and after a narrow escape, she ran and ran and ran, until she could not run any further. She decided that her and Mr.Loomis could no longer live together, but they could both still live in the valley, and that she would talk to him in the morning. She did talk to him, and she said to him that she would bring food and water to him. She also decided he could live in the house if he wanted.

What I would have done, however, is after he attacked me i would have ran downstairs to the .22 rifle and loaded it. I would then wait for him, and when he appeared I would hold him at gunpoint. I would then get him to fetch me some rope or twine or wire or something like that and then I would tie him up so that he could not use his hands or feet, because i could not trust him. I would keep him alive, I would feed him and give him water, but i would never let him taste freedom again.
