In my book, the most recent important event was when Mr. Loomis attacked the main character in her sleep. He tried to grab her and hold her down to the bed, so I think he was probably trying to rape her. She might not have escaped, but her dog was sleeping with her and woke up. The dog woke up, and then the dog made a little bark which woke up the main character, which kept her alert and she soon realized that Mr. Loomis was in her room. She kept quiet and pretended that she was asleep, because she was scared and waited to see what Mr. Loomis was going to do. He attacked, and after a narrow escape, she ran and ran and ran, until she could not run any further. She decided that her and Mr.Loomis could no longer live together, but they could both still live in the valley, and that she would talk to him in the morning. She did talk to him, and she said to him that she would bring food and water to him. She also decided he could live in the house if he wanted.
What I would have done, however, is after he attacked me i would have ran downstairs to the .22 rifle and loaded it. I would then wait for him, and when he appeared I would hold him at gunpoint. I would then get him to fetch me some rope or twine or wire or something like that and then I would tie him up so that he could not use his hands or feet, because i could not trust him. I would keep him alive, I would feed him and give him water, but i would never let him taste freedom again.
